What you didn’t know about Aromatherapy & how it can help you find balance on a daily basis.

The first time I can remember encountering true (homemade) plant based care was with my grandmother.  I had a stye on my eyelid, and she quickly had me fetch a white flower from her garden, she added water in a pot, brought it to boil, & added this flower.  I don’t remember the steps after that, but the next thing I recall were cold cotton balls on my eyelids. She assured me it was “Santo remedio” i.e., a sure thing, “magic cure.”  She had aloe in the backyard too, which was often used after a long day at the beach. I grew up with these beautiful plant based remedies but they were just a part of my life, but I never connected these with “essential oils.”

Fast Forward a few decades later…

Whenever I get a massage at the spa, the smell is “delicious” & the aroma wins me over with relaxation.    Once I became pregnant, I was more mindful of the products I used and consumed, so organic face wash, & lotions, etc.  I have aromatherapy plug ins at home. I keep peppermint on hand for my all too common migraines. I use aromatherapy hand wash, aromatherapy laundry detergent, the list goes on and on.

Everyone is on to something here right?!

In my private practice, I have so many patients struggling with anxiety & depression.  My wheels are always spinning, how can I help them more?  Whether they were on medication or initially resistant to medication, what can I offer as a resource to supplement or aide them on their journey to emotional wellness?

I started searching for someone who could provide knowledge on oils, and while preparing for a self-care event I was hosting, I came across Monika Arenas – a Latina, Registered Nutritionist, who taught yoga, was a PUMA-sponsored athlete, AND had an entire page dedicated to essential oils.

When we met and I asked her if she would be willing to help my patients, she looked at me, & challenged me to help them myself.

“I do not know enough, how can I?”   “You learn as I did, you consume, you grow, then you educate, empower & teach your patients to advocate for themselves and GROW!”

So here we are together, you and me!  I am so excited to share this with all of you & can’t wait to help you learn & grow some more.

P.S. Can you imagine if the Latinas in my community new that their ancestors’ remedies were now available in a different medium…oils?!
